#18 Web-based Apps

I explored the Google Docs & Spreadsheets. I already had a calendar that I created several months ago. Our family shares our calendars with each other so we have an idea when we have free time to get together. We all have been so busy recently we haven't used it as much as we should.

I like the idea of being able to create documents on one computer and being able to access from any computer, as well as sharing with others. I said I like the idea of sharing with other, but probably won't.

#16 So what’s in a wiki?

While looking at the Wiki's I was hoping to find something that I could really be interested in, but was disappointed every time. The one Wiki I found the most interesting was for Interlibrary Loan. Maybe someday it will develop into something I would find a little more interesting. Maybe a patron would find it interesting though.

On to the next task.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...

Wow, finally the last entry. This week has been very hard for me to get through. There is so much reading and so many distractions, hard to concentrate. The most interesting reading for me was "To better bibliographic services". This concept has been going through my mind since we started doing Library 2.0. With each exercise we have completed I've been thinking how this might help with verifying citations. The more information that becomes available the greater the challenge for me. I love it.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

This might say "getting not-so-technical" with Technorati, but it did with me. I didn't find this one as interesting as some of the others. If you look into my eyes now, it will say TILT.

Discovery Exercise: Del.icio.us

I really like the idea of using Del.icio.us to organize my personal bookmarks and to be able to view them at any computer. To be able to organize the bookmarks is a real bonus for me. While exploring the different Del.icio.us accounts, I found it was like peeling an onion. One site would lead to another site and on and on. I could spend hours.

I think Del.icio.us is one of the tools I will be using at home.

Discovery Exercise News Feeds

When searching the various feeds, I didn't find anything that I would want to use regularly. To be perfectly honest, I don't have much time to devote to viewing other blogs, etc. This weekend I was looking for some information on refinishing furniture and I noticed the RSS symbol on some of the cites I visited. These would be something I would like to refer to while I'm working on certain projects.

I am discovering how much I have learned in Library 2.0 by the new things I am noticing when doing my regular work and when I am researching things for personal use. As a matter of fact I think I might be getting the hang of this after all.

Blog Feeds

This is the first exercise I have started without going to a class first. I found that you have to set aside the time to complete one portion of the exercise. For me this is hard to do, but I will do it.

As far as using this technology I can subscribe to coworkers blogs to view easily. As for using RSS and newsfeeds, etc., using ALA might teach me new and improved things and finding other feeds to help verify citations. It will be nice to have things of interest in one spot to view quickly.

I think I am starting to feel a little more comfortable with the whole process now.
